If you’re on the fence about whether you should play Farming Simulator 19 on console or PC, allow me to speak some truth into your life. The game is undeniably better on PC than console. As someone who played FS15 on laptop, FS17 on console, and FS19 on a gaming PC, let me tell you why the latter is the best choice:
- Mods, mods, mods (for equipment)
-If you have ever wanted to play with tractors, trucks, or maps that are not available in the base game you will want to play on PC. Mod sites outside of the in-game mod hub are able to feature mods that do not fit within Giants Software’s licenses. So all those “lifted trucks” and old time tractor brands are only available on PC. This might be the biggest reason to switch to PC if you ever want to play with unique equipment. - Play maps that never make it to console
-Giants has to have a rigorous mod vetting system to allow mods, including maps, to make it to console. As a result, only the best and most polished maps ever get to console. However, there are many other maps that are fantastic that may never make it there. With modded PC maps, players are able to try out unique maps that have not yet made it to the other systems. Sometimes these WIP (work in progress) mod maps are the most fun to play. Players may even have an opportunity to be a part of a beta testing team. This cannot possibly happen on console. - Graphics
-I’m not a technical person, so I won’t try to make a technical argument here. But the new lighting on FS19 looks better on PC than on console. There are some PC players who have added new textures and shaders to adjust the lighting and make it look even better than it shipped originally. It’s not necessary, but it’s just another level of customizing the game that is not available for console players. - The “follow me” mod
-If you’ve watched FS YouTubers much, you’ve probably seen the follow me mod. It allows the player to have another piece of equipment follow behind, simulating an automated worker. It’s a great idea that helps to add to productivity. Since no one in the 21st century runs a farm on their own, the mod allows the player to keep up with larger farms with bigger fields. Script mods like this often struggle on consoles and can be game breaking when they don’t work. - The “seasons” mod
-There are a lot of content creators who love the seasons mod, which takes the unrealistic 24-hour growth cycle of the base game and extends it. Even better, the player can adjust the number of days in the season cycle, allowing considerably longer gameplay. This allows for more realistic processes when it comes to all facets of the farming process from plowing, planting, fertilizing, and eventually harvesting crops. To make it even more exciting, modders have added “bios” that can be for specific regions of the world to more accurately reflect the climate and farming style in those places.
